A Bit About Sean
Sean Langevin was born on August 17,1984 in Walnut Creek, California. He was a 2002 graduate of Ygnacio Valley High School. After high school, he completed a couple semesters at Diablo Valley College. Sean was also a proud Eagle Scout with Troop 444 in Concord. He earned his Eagle Scout after completing his senior year.
Sean loved an adventure. He enjoyed inline skating, snowboarding, bungee jumping, tandem skydiving and more. Sean was sensitive, loved his family, country and God. He had an innate talent for drawing out people he met with his infectious smile and laugh.
Sean had initially signed up for the Delayed Entry Program with the Navy in his senior year of high school. A few months prior to joining the Navy, Sean broke his wrist and couldn’t join. In 2005, he began thinking about joining the military again and decided on the Army.
But before going into the Army, Sean married the love of his life, Jessica, on January 29, 2006. On February 14, 2006, Sean was officially in the Army. He completed Army basic training and then airborne school at Fort Benning, Georgia. After graduation, Sean was stationed at Caserma Ederle in Vicenza, Italy with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team. Sean and Jessica made their home in Vicenza until he deployed to Afghanistan on May 24, 2007 for a 15-month deployment.
Sean was scheduled to take leave on February 1, 2008, for the birth of his first child. Zoe was born on February 4, 2008. Unfortunately, Sean didn’t make it home for Zoe’s birth. On November 9, 2007, Sean died of wounds sustained when his patrol was ambushed and attacked by direct fire from enemy forces in Aranas, Afghanistan at the young age of 23. There were five other soldiers killed on the same day: 1LT Matthew Ferrara, SGT Jeffery Mersman, SPC Lester Roque, PFC Joseph Lancour and Marine SGT Phillip Bocks.
CPL Sean Langevin fought alongside a highly decorated Army unit: Chosen Few, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Airborne Infantry Regiment.
Sean’s awards and decorations: posthumous promotion from Specialist to Corporal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star with Valor, Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Basic Parachutist Badge.
Sean’s final resting place is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Mausoleum of Angels in Lafayette, California.
